The International advisory Board has decided to hold the 17th International Conference on Retinal Proteins (ICRP2016) in Germany. Profs. Hegemann and Gerwert will be the new chairs of the International Advisory Committee and they will organize the next meeting with their teams in two years. Welcome to the 16th International Conference on Retinal Proteins
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Board members of the International Conference on Retinal Proteins (ICRP) and the Organizing Committee, I would like to cordially invite you to attend the 16th International Conference on Retinal Proteins (ICRP2014) in Nagahama, Japan, from October 5 to 10, 2014.
Retinal proteins, which contain a Vitamin A derivative (retinal) in their protein moieties, are diverse and versatile proteins found throughout the natural world, for example, photoreceptor proteins mediating visual and non-visual photic functions, light-induced proton pumps, sensors and channels in microorganisms. The ICRP was established in 1984 as the only international conference that dealt with the retinal proteins comprehensively. Since then, the conference has been held every two years at different venues around the world. Following the success of ICRP2012 held in Ascona, Switzerland, ICRP2014 was planned for 2014 in Japan.
The main objective of this conference is to share the latest progress in the research of the diverse aspects of retinal proteins. These include crystallographic and spectroscopic studies of protein structure and dynamics, genetic, biochemical and physiological studies of protein function, signal transduction and energy transduction mechanisms, and more recent topics such as optogenetic tools and other applications to biomedical research, and applications as alternative energy sources.
Nagahama is located north of the largest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa (or Biwako), and it is only 30 minutes away from Kyoto by bullet train. The hotel has a beautiful view of Lake Biwa, and nearby tourist attractions include the Nagahama Castle and the Hikone Castle, which were the center stage of medieval Japan. Thank you for considering travelling to Japan to attend the ICRP2014 in Nagahama.
